Time Out Sydney

The beloved Oxford Street warhorse that's drawn 'em in for decades rises again

She's an old gal, but looks great for her age. One of the oldest gay palaces in Sydney, the Shift is the queen of the Oxford strip, and after years of what felt like rudderless stops and starts, she's been given a fresh overhaul and a new direction. The much-loved upstairs nightclub is where you're find drag revues, dazzling dance extravaganzas, popular theme parties and lots of hot, sweaty fun over the weekend. There's also a casual lounge area just off the main dancefloor in case you need to cool your heels.

The downstairs bar, meanwhile, is the spot for casual after-work drinks with friends, kicking off a big night or... well, whatever you want, really! A new bistro, 91 Oxford Kitchen and Bar, recently opened next door – it now occupies the eastern half of the old downstairs bar where punters used to enter the venue.
