Fresh fruit and vegetables are the cornerstone of any balanced meal. Try to buy organic, seasonal and pesticide-free
Harris Farm
The bigger offerings like Harris Farm just keep getting better and better when it comes to their produce as well as their cured meat products and cheeses. Not only do they stock all the usual gear but you’ll also find hunks of Callebaut chocolate, gooey slabs of Dauphinoise cheese and a good selection of meats. And then, of course, there’s a very decent selection of fresh fruit and veggies. Various locations around Sydney.
Galluzzo
Galluzzo has not just fruit and veg but a range so broad there are things here that are downright unrecognisable. A favourite among Glebe locals, the crew at this little fruit and vegetable store stock some of the more interesting fresh produce you’re likely to come across. Look out for the more unusual gear, which comes out later in the week. Lemonade fruit may make an appearance as will heirloom carrots, tomatoes and new season plums.
Norton St Grocer
It’s not always viable to hit those tiny boutique fruit and vegetoriums when shopping. Time can be an issue, as can geography. Norton Street Grocer, however, is an excellent solution to giving up and shopping at a big chain supermarket, offering up an impressive selection of Italian meats, pasta and cheeses as well as good quality fresh fruit and vegetables.
Fratelli Fresh
You might know the local Sydney fruit and vegetable stores better for their adjoining restaurant Café Sopra, or the free weekly cooking classes. But did you also know that Frat Fresh (located in Waterloo, Sydney CBD, Walsh Bay and Potts Point) offer up the likes of single varietal apple juices, tiny onions for pickling, beautiful heirloom tomatoes and individual watermelons the size of your fist? Well now you do. Go forth and be vitamin filled.
Fourth Village Providore
Head here for the kind of fresh fruit and veggies that belong in a Sicilian postcard. There are floor-to-ceiling shelves fit to bursting with preserves, condiments, spices and dry goods, and in the centre of the store is a veritable cornucopia of fresh produce, laid out in baskets, boxes, trays and barrels. Load up on spicy sweet cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and air-freighted Buffalo mozzarella for the perfect Calabrese salad or peruse the vast selection in the dedicated cheese room for a cheese plate fit for a king.

Freshest I've ever seen and consistently fabulous quality is FRESH at the Burwood mall. There's one in the Castle Towers shopping centre too.
