Kick your heels up, get those endorphins flowing, then have a well-earned bite to eat over the road at Café Sopra, Walsh Bay
You’ve seen wonderful productions by the Sydney Dance Company but did you know they give dance classes as well? Their highly qualified and experienced teachers work in the industry as professional dancers or choreographers. Amenities include four large, world-class dance studios overlooking the harbour, hot showers, toilets, change rooms and a spacious and airy café with views of the Harbour Bridge. The SDC studios are open seven days a week offering more than 70 dance classes for adults aged 16 and up every week. All levels are catered for, from beginners to advanced. For beginners, classes are a fun way to get fit while gaining experience. For experienced dancers, classes are more advanced and challenging. Classes are run on a casual drop-in basis - no bookings or enrolments are necessary. Pier 4, Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay 2000. (02 9221 4811).
Having worked up a sweat honing your dance skills, you’ve earned a treat. Cross the road for a meal at Café Sopra, or perhaps a coffee. Getting a good coffee at Sopra has never been a challenge: the machine grunts all day long and they always employ very good baristas. Service in general at Sopra is always top notch too - casual and breezy, yet super-efficient. You’ll find some of the best vegetarian food in the city here thanks to fruit and vegetorium to the stars Fratelli Fresh, located in the same building. Head chef Andy Bunn utilises the excellent produce on offer in dishes such as deep-fried zucchini flowers dusted with parmesan and some of the lushest salads you’ll ever set eyes and teeth on. The Sopra folks don’t take bookings, which can be a bit of a pain but the tables turn over pretty quickly. Perhaps do your fruit and veg shopping while you wait.
