Ballet and soccer are obvious picks, but these off-kilter options are sure to be a hit with your kids

City nippers will get a big dose of country life at this self-sufficiency workshop. Kids aged five years and above will have fun milking cows, churning their own butter, and potting seedlings before settling into some yummy jam and damper. Rouse Hill Farm. Sat 26 Nov, 10am–12 noon. $20.
Flying Trapeze

Reveal Trail
Sometimes museum exhibit explanations can be a little dry, but not when hilarious children’s author Morris Gleitzman has penned them! Gleitzman has positioned a number of clues around the museum in invisible ink, and it’s up to your kids to find them all in this DIY museum workshop with a difference. For ages six and up. Powerhouse Museum. Mon–Sun 10am–5pm. $7.
Seamanship Skills and 17th-century Sailing
No child’s education is complete without a good hard look at a 17th-century sea vessel. Luckily the Maritime Museum has such a jacht in the Duyfken. Teens will learn about life on board, as well as all the seamanship basics: rigging, knotting, splicing and in-galley cooking. Maritime Museum. 4–5 Nov, 5.30–7.30pm. $55–$65.
