The Rocks Discovery Museum draws on the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority's unique archival collection and tells the exciting story of The Rocks from the pre-European days to the Sydney we know and love today.
The Museum delivers four permanent exhibitions, as well as an interactive research area to elicit the interest of every member of the family.
During the school holidays, the Discovery Museum runs the Kids Dig: a chance for kids as they journey into the world of an archaeologist, dig up some historical artefacts, and - with the help of a real archaeologist - decipher the facinating history that these buried objects hold.
The Museum's exhibits use artefacts, illustrations, installations, touch screens, interactive games, photographs, and archival footage to tell the story of Sydney from the times before European settlement right through to the present day. A day at the Discovery Museum is fun for the whole family, and it's free. However, donations are gratefully accepted and go towards the preservation of heritage buildings and sites.
