Peats Ridge Festival Arts Programme

There'll be more to the Peats Ridge Festival than awesome music.

Naturally, there's always plenty to feast your ears on at the Peats Ridge Festival - but don't forget to engage your other senses. Here's our guide to the art and performance art programme at this year's festival, presented under one condition: you get involved!

Art installations
An exciting crew of installation artists will be unleashing their creativity on Glenworth Valley. Syke and Scruff will be letting festival-goers themselves colour their giant murals (Paint By Number), while Caught in the Trees will be stringing multicoloured wool through the valley's trees, from floor to treetops, to form a giant geometric web. Word-Candy will feature thought-provoking words projected onto treetops, while revellers will be painted head to toe in fluoro paints to glow in the dark in the Tunnel of Light. There'll be 17 other installations brightening up the place too.

Boudoir De La Fox
This little theatre hosts the performance, dance and comedy for the festival. Highlights include the Alchemical Cabaret, a display of human endurance employing fire and razorblades, John Johnson clowning around in his vaudeville show Rodney. Missing. and some brave performers putting themselves at the mercy of their audiences in Scared Scriptless. And, when the moon draws nigh, it turns into a thumping nightclub.

Wonderland
Let your imagination take you to a place far, far away. So far away in fact that you will be confusing your mate for Willy Wonka and the person next to you for the Cat in the Hat. This is Wonderland, a place where Lolo Lavina will take you on the plight of the European gypsy with Romani lyrics, an accordion and a banjo. There will also be Lenka and the Puppet Government bringing puppets to life, campfire storytelling in its most hardcore, raw and honest form and the Surface Tension Quintet marching their five piece band, emitting bubbles rather than music from their trumpets.

The Land of Hopeless Utopians
This is something we have never quite heard of, and presume you probably haven't either. The Land of Hopeless Utopians takes the form of a vast Geodesic dome that employs the light of the sun in creating an audiovisual extravaganza of. By night, Head On Photography Festival, Punk Monk Liquid Projections, and Expanded Architecture will project light and colour onto a giant bubble, and two interactive musical instruments, the Radar Synthesizer and Sub Table, will be set up for festival-goers to release their inner musician... not to mention the giant inflatables.

Trash Temple and Pork
Clown Club and Pork are here to talk about filth. This place is twisted; characters and fanatical heretics are paying homage to all things junked from exploitation to waste.

Vic's Disco
The fact that priority entry is given here to those dressed in disco gear speaks for itself. A mob of Transylvanian Vampires will fang out the dance floor to the likes of Rasputin's Romp and the Bolshevik Boogie. Weird? Apparently anything goes at Peats Ridge this year – so we say get your Ruski on and come prepared with tulle, green eye shadow and a hairbrush to tease your hair.

NYE Fancy Dress Parade
Gremlin, goblin, pixie, fairy, banshee, elf or giant aubergine: pick your creature of choice to transform into for the costume parade on New Year's Eve – bring from home or take advantage of the onsite costume hire and make your own mask in a mask-making workshop. Prizes will be awarded for originality and creativity so get in the spirit. Natasha Gammell
