Richard "In Your Mind" Cartwright and Evelyn "Pikelet" Morris interview each other. Efficient or what!
Evelyn: Hey Richard!
Rich: Yo
Evelyn: Let's do this thing! Have you got a copy of Lodger by David Bowie?
Rich: I do have a copy but I tell you, I
haven't listened to it much.
Evelyn: Fair enough.
Rich: I love Bowie, though.
Evelyn: Me also, that record especially:
and I'll tell you why...
Rich: Why?
Evelyn: The lyrics are really mundane:
"Learning to live with somebody's depression" and things like that.
Rich:
I must go to it. He's done everything.
Evelyn: What is it that you look for in
lyrical content yourself?
Rich: I like to think that the person
singing the lyrics is really involved with the lyrics and trippy stories.
Evelyn: Like?
Rich: Oh um, Blue Jay Way, waiting for
friends to come round but they're late, and the mood is strange.
Evelyn: What's that from?
Rich: Beatles. Magical Mystery Tour. It's a George [Harrison] song.
Evelyn: Hey, can I ask you a question? It's
an annoying one that people always use in interviews so I apologise in advance:
why are you Richard IN YOUR MIND?
Rich: Mainly cos it was my email address.
Yahoo wouldn't let me have 'richards mind'. I did a solo show and the booker
said it should be my stage name.
Evelyn: That's a very down-to-earth way to choose your name.
Rich: It also kinda describes listening to
music, by me.
Evelyn: Yeah, I like that about it.
Rich: Someone once thought it meant a mind
fuck. So why Pikelet?
Evelyn: When I was a young girl my Mum made
Pikelets for me whenever she wanted to give us a treat and I thought it was the
bomb. Then when I was older she told me she mostly did it when she was flat
broke, so when I made a CD for her of my own music to make her feel better when
she was ill. It made sense to call it a Pikelet coz I made it from borrowed
equipment.
Rich: That's awesome. Pikelets remind me of
my youth - I think they were big in the ‘80s.
Evelyn: Yeah they're so awesome. They
definitely were big in the ‘80s! I love food fads. Hey, so we're going to have some
pretty sweet adventures on tour, right?
Rich: Absolutely.
Evelyn: We're going off the beaten track a
little...
Rich: Should be rad. We haven't played in Geelong
ever. I hope they like us.
Evelyn: My boss is from Geelong and he told
me that they might beat us up. "If it's a Friday night there's always a
brawl" were his exact words
Rich: Lucky we're big a big tough crew.
Evelyn: Yeah – I actually AM quite tough
I've gotta say. My bandmates are all talk though.
Rich: Do you like tea?
Evelyn: Definitely!
Rich: Tea is AWESOME.
Evelyn: I especially like the green tea
that has roasted rice in it.
Rich: Wow. I never roasted rice.
Evelyn: I think it's called Gen ma chai or
something like that. I generally drink tea when I'm trying to stop myself from
drinking too much coffee.
Rich: I like to have a 3:1 ratio of tea to
coffee.
Evelyn: That's sound logic right there. Hey,
do you reckon we have covered enough territory?
Rich: Sure do: tea, Bowie, toughness – all
there.
Evelyn: Tick tick tick!
Rich: Excellent! Good work team!
