With Gum Ball offering a gloriously civilised music and camping experience there’s no sane reason not to get along – but in the event that you’re not yet convinced, we have five sure-shot arguments to change your mind. And they are…
The '90s Brisvegan stars reunited for some festival sets and two packed-out Sydney shows last year, showing that there’s a lot of love out there for songs like ‘Girls Like That (Don’t Go For Guys Like Us)’, ‘Apartment’ and ‘Music is Crap’. They’ve been doing all-killer-no-filler sets, so you know this is going to be a party.
Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes!
They’re one of our favourite bands of last year, they make a gorgeously timeless mix of old-school r’n’b, jazz, soul and rock and their Baby Caught the Bus album is never far from the Time Out office playlist. The Gum Ball crowd can be divided into two groups: fans, and future fans.
Mat McHugh!
You know him as the main man from the Beautiful Girls, but now he’s stepping out on his own with his debut solo album, Seperatista!. Still, we're confident that he’ll be amenable to dropping some classics from his day job in the set.
Jinja Safari
They’re Sydney’s rising Afropop stars, they’re hard at work on their highly anticipated debut album, but in the meantime, songs like the Triple J favourites ‘Mermaids’ and ‘Sunken House’ are going to get you dancing despite yourself.
Ash Grunwald with Vika & Linda Bull
Mr Grunwald’s deft mix of roots and blues is a solid draw on its own terms. Throw in the lusty voices of the sisters Bull – who’ve brought so damn much to records by everyone from the Black Sorrows to Paul Kelly – and you have a potentially life-changing mix. Trust us.
