What are you up to? We're in the middle of a huge tour of Australia – and Kris [Schroeder, bass player] is flying out to London to mix our new record at Abbey Road.

Why should people get along to your show? Because our songs are really well written and after playing a lot live we've cultivated a perfect combination of tight and loose in our sound. And there are always pretty gals at our shows...

What's the best pub/venue/bar/restaurant in Sydney, and why? I reckon sitting in the Cricketer's Arms, after a day at the beach, covered in salt and sand, drinking cold beer, the warm sun fading, watching your dreamy-eyed companion make her next move in a long game of Scrabble would be hard to beat.

What's the best joke you've heard recently?  "A bra walks into a bar. The barman says 'Sorry, I can't serve you mate. You're off your tits.'" Lame, I know. I need to get out more.

Xbox 360 vs Wii vs PS3: who wins? I have no idea.

What's the best song about Sydney, and why? 'River of Tears' by Kev Carmody for its evocative words, the politics and the haunting melody. Sydney is an amazing, beautiful place, but it has some very dark shadows, too.

The Basics play at the Sydney Opera House Studio on Fri 17 July.
