An army of food trucks is rolling into Sydney
Stop dreaming about those LA taco trucks and get your neck back in your own yard. Sydney has now joined the ranks of cities offering quality snacks on wheels. The City of Sydney initiative are putting out a series of test trucks to see how Sydney takes to it (very bloody well, we imagine). The 10 trucks taking the streets are mixing it up with the likes of burgers, tacos, burritos, spelt pizze, steamed pork buns, things on sticks, healthy breakfast foods and fresh juices as well as grilled meats and pulled pork sandwiches. The trucks will be making their way around Sydney and will be confirming their locations closer to feeding time via Facebook and Twitter.
Catch the following trucks around town real soon:
Eat Art Truck Prog-snacks from former Tetsuya's sous chef, Stuart McGill.

Typical council to take something cool and screw it until is very un-cool. DAs in for food truck trading zones... Ugh. Agree w Fassnidge on this one... "not very rock and roll"!

No, you literally said that a real food truck is one run by a poor ethnic family. Which implies that any food truck that isn't, isn't a real food truck. Which is, as I said, a ridiculous thing to say. I agree there's way too much red tape involved, but hopefully this will pave the way for similar initiatives. Sounds like you need to go to council with you plan for diverse, authentic food trucks around Sydney. And frankly, I'd be right there with you.

I am beyond excited about this. I spent a majority of the summer sampling food trucks in the likes of NYC, Seattle, Vancouver and San Fran and I'm soooo happy that I can indulge again while I'm at "home". Hope everyone gets behind it!

Hi Corridor Kitchen, actually I have tried the food, from Cantina Mobil on the northern beaches. It was delicious and I'll go back for more! I'm also looking forward to sampling the rest as they hit the road this year. I'm sure they'll make fantastic food too. No, my argument was with local and state government making it very difficult to start up businesses like these. Too much red tape and money involved. And that's a pity, because as I said, some of the best of this style of food comes from ethnic groups cooking traditional food. And we have no shortage of ethnic groups who'd love a cost effective way to share their culture's food. Only then we would have the diverse range of food trucks as you'd find overseas.

I love how you can say that before even trying the food from the trucks in Sydney! Insane. And not all LA food trucks are 'run by a poor ethnic family serving up authentic food at incredibly cheap prices', many are chefs and foodies...that's like saying only poor families make good food. Ridic.

agree with scott. they only chose established operators with no opportunities for small entrepeneurs..council restrictions and RTA limitations will mean a tough time to recoup the almost $100 000 investment! and do we really need 3 trucks doing Mexican food.

@f651acc8cadca1c82f51be518e2ef1b1:disqus is right. Sydney's small selection of hand-picked trucks, complete with its qualified chefs, and adhering to strict local government bureaucracy will never compare to the real thing. LA's taco trucks are everything our version isn't. A real food truck is run by a poor ethnic family serving up authentic food at incredibly cheap prices.

Or maybe they'll just be good, Zbender.

Having just come in from New York overnight, I guarantee you Sydney's wannabe versions will be overpriced and under-patronised. The key to the quality, well-trafficked ones, seemed to be outstanding quality at a good price. A classy tomatillo-salsa'd chicken burrito was $8 on Friday.
