“Our move home is a lifestyle choice,” say Turnbull’s wife and business partner Mimi Gilmour. “We have been so busy that Warren and I have practically been living in different countries since I moved back to design/run the food show for the Rugby World Cup just over a year ago.
But thanks to meeting the guys behind Britomart Hospitality Company, who have since become partners in both District Dining
and Mexico in Auckland, the pair now have the opportunity to make the move back to their native Auckland and spend more time with each other and their families.
We’ll miss Turnbull – one of Sydney’s most talented chefs. After seven big years running Assiette
, he’s decided to put the restaurant on the market. “We plan to keep District Dining for now, as long as we can continue to manage it from NZ,” says Gilmour. “We are lucky enough to have a fantastic team there and we are excited about the possibility of giving them the opportunity to further their involvement so they can learn what we have over the last few years.”
NZ is really heating up when it comes to their food and drink offerings. “While [Auckland] may never be the size of Sydney we hope to make some exciting contributions to its growth and diversity.
What Auckland gains we sadly lose here in Sydney, but we wish the pair of them every success. Go All Blacks.
