Missed Cinco de Mayo?

Missed Cinco de Mayo?
First published on 6 May 2009. Updated on 6 Feb 2012.

You may not realise it but May 5 is a special day. It's the day that Columbus landed in Jamaica, Coco Chanel released Chanel No.5 and Mexican troops halted a French invasion. And while we do love reggae and nice smells, the Mexicans have turned Cinco de Mayo into a real celebration of food, drink and music. Which provides you with just the excuse you needed to suck down some midweek Coronas and get some comida Mexicana down your gizzard. Here's our pick of the top five spots for tacos and tequilas this Cinco de Mayo:

Guzman y Gomez
Cheap, fast and cooked fresh to order, this is casual dining at its tasty best.
Newtown

Also at:
Bondi JunctionKings Cross and Australia Square Food Court, George St.

Cafe Pacifico
With 50 tequilas to choose from, this will be a celebration to remember. Or not.
Darlinghurst

Flying Fajita Sisters
This quirky cantina combines pink fairies with a huge selection of hot sauce. What's not to like?
Glebe

Beach Burrito Company
A San Fran style taqueria with BYO, gluten-free options, ocean views and a laid back beach vibe.
North Bondi

Mad Mex
