Coolest café in the Cross by far, Piccolo was a den of iniquity long before The Golden Mile was paved. Founded by Englishman Bill Vader in the 40s, overrun by jazz cats in the 50s and lovingly desecrated by everyone from Jeff Buckley to Liv Ullman to Brett Whiteley in the decades since. Piccolo is today the baby of barista Vittorio Bianchi and he marshals the jukebox, coffee machine, kitchen and film-crews that visit with an iron fist, old-school courtesies and a sly nod and a wink to his ever-colourful but fiercely loyal Kings Cross clientele.
