Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 Round Up

Time Out's blow-by-blow, frock-by-frock breakdown of MBFWA SS12/13

Gary Bigeni

Drawing on summer’s massive colour blacking craze, Bigeni pared it down, sticking to a colour palette of camel, black, turquoise, tangerine and cobalt accented with four colourful prints. The wearable separates drew on sportswear inspired silhouettes, with the classic raglan t-shirt getting a mature makeover in an orange and camel silk and a turquoise and caramel knit.

The Innovators

The group show, composed of the six best TAFE graduate collections, is famed for its prophetic quality: many of Australia’s best designers have gone on from this graduate show to huge success. This year saw Kayleen Milner, Carlie Waterman, Cynthia Thai, Stephanie Goerlach, Yuliy Gershinsky and Christopher Baldwin's collections hit the runway.

Camilla

The Gypset collection was a hyper-colour journey through some of the world's most exotic locations. The offbeat safari of influences spanned Morocco, Africa, Laos, India, Japan and there was even a hint of our very own outback landscape. The prints were original and endless. Oriental florals, fractured geometrics, bold tribals, wild animals and swirling paisley patterns all clashed, complimented and coordinated for a colourful visual feast.

Roopa Pemmaraju

Pemmaraju's collection was a combination of varied influences; Her Indian heritage shone with her skilled manipulation of the fall and fold of textiles, while her use of beaded neckpieces and primary colours pointed to an almost African sensibility.

New Generation 1

Prints, leather and fresh talent reigned supreme at the New Generation group show. Designers included Collecting Pretty Boys, Elliatt, Kristi Rose Tovah and Kahlo.

Zimmermann

Nicky Zimmermann's Clique Clique collection saw a blend of uniquely cut swimwear, voluminous silk jackets, and playful tailored dresses bring the vast Koskela warehouse space to life.
