New work from provocative installation and performance artist Sarah jane Norman will be on show at Serial Space in June. Time Out guides you through some of her most confronting work
1 Old Country (cyclorama) (2006)
You wander freely around the space. The artist sits on a square of green turf beneath a video projection of the Devonshire countryside. She attempts to play ‘Jerusalem' on a portable keyboard. Gradually, she consumes three kilograms of British apples.
2 Rest Area (2007)
You are in a vacant lot. Alone, you enter the back of a stationary truck. Inside you discover a makeshift bedchamber. The artist invites you to lie with her on the bed. She embraces you.
3 Songs of Rapture and Torture #1 (2008)
You are admitted, again alone, into a dark room. The artist, bound, blindfolded and naked, is singing ‘Surabaya Johnny' in its original German. You are ushered out again after five minutes. The artist continues singing the song for up to ten hours straight.
4 Take This, For It Is My Body (2010)
Once again alone, you enter a dark studio space. The artist, barefooted and wearing a satin slip, prepares a loaf of bread. Into the mixing bowl she pours: flour, sugar, baking soda, buttermilk, her own blood. You are seated at a table. The artist offers you a slice.

I saw 'Take This, For It Is My Body' in Bristol this year and it was beautiful. I thoroughly recommend catching her if you can.
