In 2009, a 14-year-old girl was given an on-air lie detector test on a live Sydney radio program. When pressed for information, the girl shockingly admitted that she was previously raped, generating a storm of controversy and discussion in the Australian media. This infamous incident serves as the source of The Tender Age’s themes of sexuality, young people, relationships and technology. Performed with an ensemble of professional artists and young performers, this is an eye-opening work on the conflicting messages that today’s youths receive on advanced communications technology, sexuality as power, and attitudes toward sex.
