“And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine.”

What could be a more romantic way to spend Valentine’s Day than a night at the opera?

In his five-star review, Time Out Sydney critic Tomas Boot called Opera Australia’s production of Turandot, choreographed by Graeme Murphy, one to be treasured – “musically, visually and dramatically”. It’s the story of the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot, who challenges her suitors to solve three riddles in order to win her hand, and features the famous, haunting aria (and occasional sporting anthem) ‘Nessun Dorma’.

You can make a night of it at any one of the high quality venues around Circular Quay and the Opera House. For views of the Sydney Opera House itself, the nearby Aria restaurant is a great choice, offering a sophisticated and relaxed setting to start your evening. Or book a table at Sydney Opera House’s flagship restaurant, Guillaume at Bennelong, run by Sydney chef Guillaume Brahimi.

Visit the famous Opera Bar and the fantastic Opera Kitchen for a drink and some delicious Australian cuisine, and enjoy their pre-theatre menu served from 5pm. Inside the Box Office foyer there’s Bistro Mozart (also run by Guillaume Brahimi) which serves superb meals prior to performances. In addition, the Theatre Bars, located in the Northern and Southern foyers of the Sydney Opera House, showcase unrivalled views of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Farm Cove as well as the harbour and offer spacious indoor and outdoor areas. Pre-order your drinks on arrival for the interval so you can avoid the queues.

All the ingredients of a beautiful night: a luxurious meal, romantic scenery, and sumptuous entertainment in the finest venue in the city. One to be treasured.
