It's alive! Again! The magnificent National Theatre production returns to Australian screens
In 2011, NT Live brought the National Theatre production of Frankenstein to selected Australian cinema screens. The production marked a return to stage directing for Danny Boyle, and, most ingeniously, starred Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, War Horse) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting) in the alternating roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature over the course of the season.
We saw Cumberbatch as Victor and Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature and, as we said in our review at the time, it was superb. Its opening sequence, in which the Creature is born, was especially riveting stuff.
Due to popular demand, Sharmill Films and NT Live are presenting a special encore season in selected cinemas. On 9-10 Jun, you can catch Jonny Lee Miller as the Creature as we did, and 23-24 Jun check out Cumberbatch in the role. By all accounts both versions are magnificent.
Participating cinemas announced so far: Dendy Opera Quays, Hayden Orpheum Cremorne, Chauvel Cinema and Riverside Theatres Parramatta.
