Darlo’s fern-filled Victoria Room offers an outrageous array of cocktails and is one of the few genuine late-late-dining destinations in the city. As if that wasn’t enough to recommend it, they also have a weekly Sunday night Performance Carnival. And the entertainment is absolutely free.
Part of the attraction is the ever-changing roster of performers. On the night Time Out visits, we get feats of aerial derring-do, crime jazz crooning from Jimmy Vargas, acrobatic pole dancing and up-close and personal card trickery from mentalist-magician David Dodgen – but you’re just as likely to be treated to a song by a piano-string ensemble or exotic belly-dancing.
The Sunday Menu includes tasting plates and pan-fried calamari, but, if you’re truly feeling the communal spirit of live entertainment, consider taking a dip in the exquisite cheese fondue for two or four people.
