A Year Inside the Australian Ballet

Blood, sweat, tears and tutus. Put on your pointe shoes (or not) for a peek behind the scenes of Australia’s premier ballet company

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a dancer in the Australian Ballet? The hard work, the performance highs, the tight-knit friendships, the laughs, the challenges and the wearing of tight pants? Focusing on Telstra Ballet Dancer Award nominees Amy Harris and Jake Mangakahia, this new ten-part series takes you behind the scenes as never before to show you the inner workings of the company.

Episode One

Meet Amy and Jake... in slow-mo. For Episode One of the series, the dancers of the Australian Ballet return from their break and dive headlong into their whopping 50th anniversary season.

Episode Two

Jake gets a major break - no, not his toes, thankfully - working with Bangarra's Stephen Page on Infinity.

Episode Three

Amy talks about the realities of touring - hint: it's not as glamorous as you might think - and takes us through her perfume-related pre-performance superstitions.

Episode Four

Things get very Billy Elliot when Jake takes a class of aspiring Baryshnikovs for the Australian Ballet's Boys' Day. Video may contain incredibly cute kids busting moves.
