Beer O'clock 13

Brad Pitt's brother and the Higgs Boson in the best of YouTube this week

First published on 6 Jul 2012. Updated on 6 Jul 2012.

1. Fifty Shades of Gottfried
Fifty Shades of Grey is the kind of erotic fiction mummies just love. It was at the bottom of our reading list before, but since watching this emotional reading by Gilbert Gottfried, we’ve done quite a 180.

2. Doug Pitt (Brad's Bro) is in a Virgin ad
Naw. This awesome, super-weird Virgin Mobile campaign is a look into the life of Brad Pitt’s humble, younger (yes, younger) brother, Doug. We’ll shoot hoops and listen to '70s rock with you, Doug.

3. Home movies vs the internet
In this clip, a filmmaker talks to his 12-year-old self – via home movie. "Life before the internet is kind of a blur to me…" says the grown-up self, in one of several touching moments. Lesson #1: preserve your VHSs!

4. The End of the World
Because nuclear holocaust is timeless, we bring you The End of the World – an oldie but a goodie. Cheers to the lucky kangaroo, who gets to be the last surviving thing on Earth.

5. Burning Down the House (aka plain awesomeoness)
Elaborate choreography must have gone out the window for David Byrne after Stop Making Sense. In this clip from a New York show, Byrne and Amanda Palmer deliver a Talking Heads classic without the need for hundreds of rehearsals – but with all the token euphoria.

6. The Higgs
Beer-O’Clock is not just about cheap laughs – we can also get Behind the News when we want to. So, in honour of a science and the week that was, here is the best layman explanation of the Higgs Boson we cold find on YouTube. Hooray!
