Whether you harbour aspirations of DJ grandeur or not, it's hard not to love Activision's new rhythm gaming gem: DJ Hero. Tutorials with Grandmaster Flash help you familiarise yourself with the turntable deck and the extensive list of original two-track mixes that blend hip hop, electronica, Motown, pop, and others. There's no option to create your own mash-ups but you can customise a set list or select from a number of predefined sets with collaborators such as DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip, Scratch Perverts and Daft Punk.
Despite its lacklustre appearance and one small turntable, the deck is practical, responsive (dare I say too responsive when scratching and cross-fading at higher difficulty levels) and accommodates left-handed mix masters. Using it sitting down is a struggle, but fear not – mum's ironing board is the perfect thing to get you on your feet and stringing beats together to attain "euphoria". Arik Kogan
