Sure, it must have been a blast to be there. The Manchester crowd in this DVD are lively – rowdy, even – and they are not shy about yelling things out. However, in the comfort of your living room, your enjoyment of this DVD is likely to be governed primarily by how much you like recognising characters from the three series of The Mighty Boosh, as opposed to how much you enjoy comedy involving them.
Vince Noir and Howard Moon – or, more accurately, Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett – are honest-to-god superstars in the
UK these days, so it's hardly a surprise that people go nuts for everything
that they do. It's just a bit of a shame that this entails going nuts if they,
say, smile, or look at something. However, they're not really the problem. The problem is the
supporting cast, whose bits involve little more than turning up
(oooh! Look, Naboo's doing his hilarious turning-his-back-on-Vince bit again! Yay!
I remember things!). In a nutshell, if your love of the Boosh comes from being
able to identify them, Future Sailors provides ample opportunities to do so. If
you'd prefer something more akin to their surreal, well-crafted humour, maybe
stick to the series. Ellison Ward
