Celebrating the cold weather is the annual Orange Frost Fest, returning for its fourth year this August 3-12. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Fire and Ice’ and will feature the 2012 Frost Fest Art Competition, Exhibition and Art Trails.   Luring the crowds are events that include dance and guitar workshops, basket weaving, a performance by the Orange Regional Conservatorium, Orange Region Farmers’ Market and junior cooking masterclasses. The festival welcomes food and wine exhibitions by local winemakers and live performances most evenings. Here are just some of the highlights during the Fest:

2. Junior Cooking Masterclasses

2. Junior Cooking Masterclasses

MasterChef 2011 winner, Orange’s Kate Bracks, joins ABC radio chef Lindl Taylor to teach one-hour cooking classes that on the use of seasonal produce. These classes are aimed at children aged 8-15. 3. Arrebato Flamenco Ensemble

3. Arrebato Flamenco Ensemble

4. Pie by the Fire

The Mandagery Creek Farm Kitchen is offering a lunch of venison pie, mashed potato and salad. The lunch is BYO wine and seating is at a big communal table by the fire. 5. Frost Fest Rugby Art Auction

Players in Orange’s two premier rugby clubs, Orange Emus and Orange City, are creating art this winter with the aim to raise money for charities. The rugby stars will be attending art classes by local artists and then displaying their work. Driving the Orange and District Wine and Food Trail is a perfect way to see many art galleries and spaces. In Orange, Millthorpe, Molong, and the Animals on Bikes Trail from Molong to Dubbo there are 19 different art spaces to visit and admire. Aug 3-12.

7. Orange Region Farmers’ Market

Local and regional producers will be selling their wares at the Agricultural Pavilion at the Orange Showground from 8.30am-1pm. This is the occasion for supporting locals and stocking up on breads, meats, winter vegetables. Hungry? You can grab a bacon and egg roll and an espresso too. 8. Acrylic Painting Day Workshop

Artist Larissa Blake will be teaching the acrylic painting process. Participants will have to opportunity to complete a painting on a canvas.
