Time Out Promotion
March is the ideal time for a Canberra city break thanks to ENLIGHTEN, part of the Canberra Festival.
On the weekends of 2-3 and 9-10 March, be entertained with late-night openings at 11 attractions plus spectacular architectural projections and buzzing entertainment precincts. ENLIGHTEN features 35 free and ticketed events, from blockbuster exhibitions to live performance, tours and talks and exclusive dining experiences.
Architectural projections – Each night of ENLIGHTEN between 8pm and 1am see stunning architectural projections on select national attractions within the Parliamentary Triangle.
Entertainment precincts – The Parliamentary Triangle will come alive with entertainment, food and wine between 6.30pm and 11.30pm. Go to the Canberra Festival website from late January to find the full programme.
Live performance – Highlights include Tim Watts presenting a fusing of animation, puppetry and mime in acclaimed kids’ show The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik, Deep Sea Explorer; harpist Alice Giles playing Arctic Inspirations; top comedians poking fun at pollies in Show Us Your Mandate; and Clare Bowditch and reunited 90s greats the Clouds joining forces for an outdoor concert at the National Museum.
Late night exhibitions – The National Gallery, National Library, Gallery of Australian Design, National Portrait Gallery, National Archives and Museum of Democracy will be keeping their doors open till late during ENLIGHTEN.
Tours and Talks – Explore the strange rock formations under Parliament House in the Unconformity Tour, take a Master Class at the National Gallery, or learn all about making money in an exclusive tour at the Royal Australian Mint. Questacon is hosting a two-hour talk about wine and beer. These are just some of the talks and tours featured during ENLIGHTEN.
Dining – The National Gallery allows you to combine your love of Italian art and food with an evening viewing of Renaissance followed by an exclusive Italian-inspired dinner created by gallery executive chef James Kidman (formerly of Sydney’s Otto restaurant) matched with fine Italian wines and musical entertainment. Over at the National Museum, be treated to a private tour of the Gallery of First Australians and a fresh and two-course bush tucker supper matched with Canberra District wines in the grand main hall.
Open doors – most of Canberra’s museums will open their doors for free during ENLIGHTEN.
