If you can’t nail a table in the popular bistro on the ground floor with a menu that’s highlighted by a dozen great pizzas, head upstairs and grab some tapas that’s best washed down with a Cuba Libre or a Manhattan. 137 Westbourne Park Rd, W2 5QL. +44 (0)20 7221 3355.
Get to the Westbourne on a Sunday and score a table outside. Order a pint of Staropramen and the chicken liver pate, then kick back and take in the ambience at one of London’s best gastropubs. 101 Westbourne Park Villas, W2 5ED. +44 (0) 20 7221 1332.
It’s our first choice for watching rugby, but the Walmer Castle isn’t a typical sports pub. When the rugby or Premier League isn’t on you’ll still find a great atmosphere washed down with great range of beers on tap, the best Thai food in the borough and pub grub for less than a tenner (think scampi and chips). 58 Ledbury Rd, W11 2AJ. +44 (0)20 7229 4620.
The Prince Bonaparte
Despite the pubs in Notting Hill being well known for their Sunday night sessions, The Prince is brilliant all-week long. If you’re after some tucker, grab the Angus beef burger with smoked Applewood cheddar or the sea bass, otherwise grab a pint and hold court at the bar. 80 Chepstow Rd, W2 5BE. +44 (0)20 7313 9491.
A five minute walk from Notting Hill Gate, the Ladbroke Arms might be owned by a big pub group but it has the atmosphere of an intimate local. You’ll find decent a food and wine list (order the Domaine La Bousolle from Languedoc), and a few tables outside, where you should absolutely park. 54 Ladbroke Rd, W11 3NW. +44 (0)20 7727 6648.
