The former W hotel in the historic Woolloomooloo Wharf is now owned by Taj, India’s luxury hotel and resort chain. While the edge may have been blunted a little, it’s still a funky, alternative hotel with lots to offer those who like something a bit different from their five-star hangout. The plush rooms feature original elements from the old wharf building, and there’s a fitness centre, indoor pool and the Water Bar.
The hotel has no restaurant, but there’s an array of high-class, high-priced eateries along the marina edge of the wharf (rooms on this side have the best views). The hotel occupies only part of the swanky wharf development; there’s also a complex of exclusive apartments. Bar. Business centre. Concierge. Disabled-adapted room. Gym. Internet (high-speed). No-smoking floors. Parking ($40). Pool (indoor). Room service. Spa. TV (cable/DVD/pay movies). Rates $415-$875 double. Rooms 100.
