Simpsons of Potts Point

First published on . Updated on 22 Aug 2010.
A very elegant and charming place, combining the stylishness and comforts of a boutique hotel with the informal sociability of a B&B. Located at the quieter end of a tree-lined street, the lovingly restored mansion was built in 1892 and still retains many of its original Arts and Crafts details. The high-ceilinged guest rooms are old-fashioned, but elegantly so, and by no means dowdy. This is the life: sipping a free port and sherry by an open hearth in winter (OK, the fires are gas-powered imitations), tucking into a continental breakfast in the conservatory, thumbing through the hardbacks in the library… Book well in advance as Simpsons gets a lot of repeat business, and note that it doesn’t have a licence to sell alcohol. Internet (wireless). No smoking. Parking (free). TV. Rates $235-$325 double. Rooms 12. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V.
