Stamford Plaza Double Bay

First published on . Updated on 15 Sep 2009.
There’s a distinctly old-money vibe to the Stamford Plaza, whose guest list has included everyone from American presidents to European and Hollywood royalty (so the brochure proudly claims). Rooms feature traditional furniture, 18th-century paintings and balconies overlooking the courtyard or the yachts in Double Bay. On the top floor is an impressive presidential suite with its own marble foyer entrance, four balconies looking over the harbour and a dining room for private parties. There’s a rooftop (heated) pool and terrace accessible to all guests, and high tea in the antiques-filled lobby lounge is a very chic affair. The Bay Grill restaurant offers smart dining, while Winston’s Lounge, with its chandeliers and grand piano, has the aura of an old-fashioned private club but serves casual food including Singaporean dishes and pizza. Bar. Business centre. Concierge. Disabled-adapted rooms. Gym. Internet (high-speed). No-smoking floors. Parking ($20). Pool (outdoor). Restaurant. Room service. TV (cable/pay movies). Rates $500-$550 double. Rooms 140. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V.
