The Pensione is part of the Eight Hotels group of affordable, stylish hotels in central Sydney. On the edge of Chinatown opposite World Square, budget accommodation really doesn’t come much better than this (although, as a result, you should choose your rooms wisely as it can get noisy). Yes, some rooms are very small, but they’re all kitted out with a mini fridge, TV, air-con and phone, and feature modern tiled bathroooms that wouldn’t look out of place in a glossy homes mag. There are around 15 family rooms, the largest sleeping up to six, so it’s a good option for young families who want something urban and edgy. Other facilities include internet kiosks and wireless internet in the guest lounge, a kitchenette and a coin-operated laundry. Bar. Disabled-adapted rooms. No smoking. Internet (wireless in guest lounge). Parking ($23). Restaurant. TV (cable). CityRail Central/Monorail World Square. Rates $115 double. Rooms 72. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V.
