The Vibe hotel chain tries to be many things at once – stylish, affordable, young – and, by and large, it succeeds in achieving these goals. Rooms may be on the small side but they get lots of light, and facilities here include a spacious fitness centre with steam room. While the rooftop pool is a little exposed on windy days, its panoramic vista of Rushcutters Bay Park (great for jogging), the water and the city is superb. There’s a cocktail bar, and a restaurant with a pleasant covered terrace. There are two other Vibes in town: one in North Sydney and one on Goulburn Street in the city.
