Australian Sunrise Lodge

First published on . Updated on 15 Sep 2009.
Established in 1990, this friendly, family-run inn is cosy and surprisingly quiet (given its location on King Street – Newtown’s main drag). In 2007, a much-needed renovation spruced the place up with a new reception area, leather sofas in the lounge, new carpet throughout and a spanking new kitchen. Guest rooms have a TV, fridge, microwave, tea and coffee facilities, and kitchen utensils. Some have balconies overlooking a courtyard and are en suite, but none have a telephone or air-con (though there are ceiling fans). The lodge is recommended by Sydney University for off-campus accommodation, so expect a distinctly studenty clientele. Disabled-adapted rooms. No smoking. Parking (free). TV. CityRail Newtown. Rates $99-$119 double. Rooms 22. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V.
