The atmosphere at the Barrenjoey is relaxed and beachy, with white-painted walls, white furniture and the odd touch of rattan or bamboo, all punctuated by colourful sprays of fresh-cut flowers. A guesthouse since 1923, it has three en suite rooms and four with shared bathrooms – all are spotless and comfortable. The front rooms are best, as they overlook sparkling Pittwater. The café-restaurant, with its convivial terrace in summer and roaring fire in colder months, is a perennial meeting spot for both locals and tourists drawn to the sights of Palm Beach. Unsurprisingly, given the decor of the hotel, the restaurant’s speciality is seafood. Bar. No smoking. Restaurant. TV (TV room). Bus 190, L90. Rates $180-$220 double. Rooms 7.
